Cranes Over
Smog

Here we are in 2024, riding high on the bull market where the S&P 500 index surged by 76% since the year of 2020 and the Nasdaq has seen an impressive gain of 95%!
But if you’re feeling nostalgic, sit back and sip your almond milk chai latte, read Cranes Over Smog, whisper to your portfolio, “2000 and 2008”, and dream of that golden retirement.

This story is for those who seek a deeper understanding of themselves and choices that shape destinies

“Cranes Over Smog” follows the personal journey of the protagonist, who reflects on their life as they find themselves in a remote, harsh environment. Through vivid imagery and introspective narrative, the book paints a picture of both the physical and emotional landscapes the protagonist navigates. The story weaves in themes of self-discovery, resilience, and the clash between personal dreams and the stark realities of life. Set against the backdrop of post-Soviet cities and nomadic landscapes, the novel explores how ambition and the modern world intersect with personal identity and values.

About the Book

Weaving a compelling narrative across two eras, Cranes Over Smog takes the reader through the tumultuous world of high-stakes business, where the lines between success, sacrifice and morality blur.

Written in humor and sarcasm, the story offers a gripping realistic portrayal of the reality of managing a major company during a historic economic crisis and to the cost of ambition. An array of vibrant individuals, a talkative cat and bursting financial and technological bubbles, serve as catalyst for the protagonist's transformation, forcing her to confront core values and redefine success.

I think it’s really inspiring how Dalit Rachel Braun talks about her experience as a woman in a field that has mostly been dominated by men, like real estate. It’s not easy for women to succeed in industries where they often face extra challenges just because of their gender, or just being a woman. Braun had to work harder to prove herself and find ways to be taken seriously, which many women can relate to. I believe it’s a struggle that a lot of women face, trying to carve out their own space in sectors where the opportunities for them are either limited or conditioned by stereotypes and expectations.

What I find impressive is how she found strategies to overcome the barriers. This shows a lot of strength and determination. Her story can motivate other women who want to break into male-dominated fields, showing them that it’s possible with persistence and the right mindset. It’s a reminder that while the journey might be harder, the achievements are even more rewarding when they come after overcoming such obstacles.

Cranes Over Smog by Dalit Rachel Braun is classified as a literature and fiction type of book. This story definitely is very immersive and introspective. If you are someone who enjoys really thinking deeply and reflecting on what your read, then this one will definitely get your mind going. This aspect of the story I really liked but other parts of it I found a little too much for where my mind wanted to go explore. But overall, very engaging and thought-provoking.

Cranes Over Smog by Dalit Rachel Braun is an interesting story that shows how life can be glorious and amazing while also harsh and ruthless. A great example of this comes out early on in the story when we meet a character who is very successful at his job, but prefers to do everything on his computer rather than interact face-to-face. Are you actually living a great life if you have no interaction with others at all? I feel these types of questions come up in most chapters forcing the readers to consider what they want from life and how well they are able to achieve that with the world being the way it is. As a fictional story, this works well. As a commentary on the way the world is today, I found it to be eye-opening, critical, and insightful. Fans of contemporary fiction will greatly enjoy this read.
